Artificial Lawn Installation on Soil

Recognize and mark off the area with an outdoor spray can marker, where you will install Artificial Lawn. Think about the dimensions of your Artificial Lawn to try to get as few seams as possible with your layout.

Step1- Shred: Shred all the accessible existing grass, hoes and vegetation. Grade soil to approximate levels and firm thoroughly. Remove any large and obtruding stones.

Step 2- Laid sand base: Spread a thin layer of sharp sand to blind over soil. Screed out to final levels and merge.

Step 3- Geotextile: Although optional, it is recommended that you lay a Geotextile fabric layer to prevent any chance of weed growth through the artificial grass drainage holes.

Step 4-Spin out artificial grass: Spin out the artificial grass, working on the carpet and not the leveled base. Ensure grass carpet is positioned to minimize cuts, joints and wastage. If joining makes sure that the grass is laid with the pile running in the same direction on each piece. Application of small amount of kiln dried silica sand would help hold the grass in position.

Step 5 -Trim grass to shape: Cut grass to shape using Stanley knife or scissors.

Step 6- Connecting: When joining the carpet strips ensure the pile runs in the same direction. Cut off produced edge strip if present and butt two edges together. Fold back edges and position jointing tape smooth from side down so that the edges of carpet meet down the centre of tape when joined.  Apply adhesive in a zing zag motion to the rougher side of the tape allowing one cartridge for approx 3 meters. Press harder the carpet into wet adhesive. Weight the mixture of seam to get good contact with the glue until cured. Then take more care over this operation it will result in neater and invisible of the joint.

Step 7 -Roll out artificial grass: Roll out the artificial grass, working on the carpet and not the leveled base. Ensure grass carpet is positioned to minimize cuts, joints and wastage. If joining makes sure that the grass is laid with the pile running in the same direction on each piece. Apply a little amount of kiln dried silica sand to hold grass in position. Not applicable when laying Greenfield, Garden and Soft

Step 8 -Jointing: When placing the joint carpet strips ensure the pile runs in the same direction. Cut off manufactured edge strip if it is there and butt two edges together. Fold back edges and position with attaching tape smooth side downs o that the edges of carpet meet down the centre of tape when joined. Apply adhesive mixture in a cress cross motion to the rougher side of the tape allowing one cartridge for approx 3 meters. Press deeply carpet into wet adhesive. Weight the mixture to ensure good contact with the glue until cured.

Step 9 -Spread sand: Apply the remained of the kiln dried sand brushing as you go, building up the depth in layers. Do not apply complete of the sand in one application. Brush sand into the pile this should be done faster after laying, while the artificial grass and weather are dry. Brush against the lay of the pile of carpet to encourage the tufts to stand upright, a stiff broom should be used. Additional fixing can be used at the edge of the carpet using broad headed, 4” or 6” galvanized nails, alternatively the grass can be fixed to wooden pegs or timber edging boards before sand filling the grass.

Step 10- Brush in sand: Brush sand into the pile after lying, while the artificial grass and weather are dry. Brush in vigorous fashion against the lay of the pile of carpet to encourage the tufts to stand upright, a stiff broom should be used.

Maintenance
To ensure that artificial grass is looking for its best and maximize its life regular maintenance is required. The key operation is regular brushing with a stiff broom, removing any soil, dirt or debris as soon as possible and vigorously brushes with a stiff broom.Wash off dust using a standard hose, avoided jet or pressure as this will remove the infill if present recommending that occasionally the sand is lightly loosened with a spring rake and topped up as required. Hot items should not be placed directly onto the surface can cause damage .Neglect burning of cigarettes on the surface. Avoid placing or moving heavy objects near or on the surface, which may cause rutting of the underlying soil. Snow should be left to melt and chemical de-ices should not be used on the surface.
